Mission Statement: The mission of College Horizons Inc. is to encourage and facilitate the higher education of Native American young people.

Who are we: College Horizons is a non-profit organization that supports the higher education of Native American students by providing pre-college (College Horizons) and pre-graduate (Graduate Horizons) summer programs open to American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian high school and college students/graduates from across the nation.

What We Do:

College Horizons (in its 13th year) is a pre-college program for Native American high school students open to current sophomores and juniors. Each summer students work with expert college counselors teamed up with college admissions officers in a five-day "crash course." The individualized program helps students:

  • Select suitable colleges to research and apply to
  • Complete winning applications, resumes, and write memorable essays
  • Become a test-prep whiz by learning test-taking strategies (on ACT & SAT)
  • Navigate the financial aid/scholarship jungle and complete a preliminary FAFSA
  • Attend a College Fair, admissions informational sessions, and have direct one-on-one time with 35 college/university representatives
  • Receive tips and strategies on the application process and get advice on how to succeed in college as a Native student
  • Learn what turns an applicant into an admitted student!

  • Select suitable graduate programs to apply to and consider potential career paths
  • Complete quality applications and resumes
  • Write effective statements of purpose and memorable personal statements
  • Receive test-taking strategies on the GRE, GMAT, LSAT & MCAT
  • Learn how to finance your graduate education
  • Explore special issues and strategies for Native students' success in graduate school
  • Develop relationships and network with faculty and student-professionals

Approximately 40% of our faculty counselors and college representatives are Native American.

College Acceptance: Every year 99% of our alumni go on to college; 95% typically to four-year institutions and about a third to very selective (those that accept 50% or fewer) institutions.

College Graduation: About 85% of our alumni graduate college within five years.
